Drummer? No problem.
Charlie Wickham, Session Drummer for Hire - at your service.
Studio Session or Theatre Pit Band, Charlie Wickham can make it happen.
Charlie Wickham has been playing the drums for 20 years. He started from the age of 3, with sofa cushions, to studying jazz, achieving Distinction in the Grade 8 Rockschool Drum Exam to achieving a first in Music Performance within Oxford Brookes’ BaHons Music Degree.
As well as this, Charlie has had lots of experience with performing for other people. He has performed with rock, pop, folk, jazz and gospel musicians. His studies have even lead him into the experimental and avant garde approaches to the drum kit. Performances with these musical arrangements have taken Charlie from local pubs in Southend on Sea, to the London Palladium for groups such as The Music Man Project. Jazz big bands and small folk get-togethers are all familiar to Charlie’s repetoire, while always being up for something new and exciting.
Charlie is also used to working with lots of different kits and is more than happy to work with built in studio kits, but can bring various bits of equipment such as cymbals, breakables etc if necessary!

As well as performing, Charlie has also become proficient with recording, whether it be in a home environment or a professional studio session. Charlie first went into the recording studio at 17 with then colloborator Leo Walrus to perform drums on a short EP. This experience proved valuable in Charlie’s time at University where he had to learn how to record himself behind the kit, always prioritising studio quality sound.
From local studios, Charlie Wickham has also recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London with the band SugarRush.
Charlie’s knack for self recording came to it’s head on the Crimson Monocle EP ‘For the Light Within’ – a jazz, fusion EP based on the tones and timbres of Japanese folk music. Charlie not only recorded all the drumming and percussion himself but also all the other musicians heard on the EP, showing his ability to be a producer, arranger and composer.
